How Does Career Coaching Work?

Our career coaches help students further develop their career knowledge, self-awareness, and confidence to make the most informed career decisions possible. The first time a student requests career coaching, they will be paired with one of our highly trained and knowledgeable peer career coaches to get them started. Peer coaches provide immediate, personalized support on a variety of topics such as resumes, LinkedIn, job searches, and more. Next, students can continue to utilize drop-in coaching or may schedule a 30-minute appointment with one of our staff career coaches. Staff career coaching appointments are best for deeper industry exploration and insights from employer and graduate school partners.

Here are some themes that can be discussed with our coaches:

  • Explore skills and interests, using one of our assessment tools, such as Career Explorer
  • Identify values and goals, and how they relate to career paths
  • Learn what you can do with your major
  • Get assistance with the graduate school application process
  • Locate resources within your industry or area of interest
  • Learn how to network in your field
  • Discuss how to search for jobs and internships
  • How to answer interview questions effectively

Please note: Out of respect for other students, scheduled appointments have a 10-minute late policy. If you arrive more than 10 minutes late, we ask you to reschedule your appointment with one of our team members in the virtual waiting room
