For many of you, your first introduction to the Toppel Career Center was ToppelFest. Although we do like to party, we also like to get down to business. What business exactly?
At Toppel, we’re in the business of career education, which means that we’re here to support you every step along the way of your career journey. Is it too early to use Toppel?
No! Whether you’re looking to explore your interests or skills, learn about possible career paths, or make connections that will launch your career, Toppel has you covered.
We’re here to assist in many ways, and one of the main ways is with our highly-trained career coaches.
Don’t know where to start? Stop by anytime Monday – Friday from 10 AM – 4 PM to meet with a career coach in person or via Zoom, with no appointment necessary. When you meet with a coach, you’re able to get assistance with things like resume & cover letter help, finding internships, exploring majors & careers, fine-tuning your LinkedIn profile, and more!
You can also utilize Cane2Cane to connect with alumni or fellow ‘Canes to help build strong connections that will help you grow and succeed in your journey.
When it comes to setting yourself up for success after graduation, internships are the key. Internships offer you the ability to gain hands-on experience before your first professional job.
It’s essentially how you’re able to have 2-3 years of experience rigth out of school. There are many ways to find and do internships, but some of the resources we offer are:
If you need academic credit for your internship, take a look at our Toppel Internship Program. Additionally, if you end up doing an un-paid or underpaid internship, check out our resources for funding.
No matter where you're at in your career journey, it's never too early to start! Just as long as you start somewhere.
If you want to stay informed about our resources, events, and more career information, then you can take a look at our weekly Toppel Insider Newsletter and follow us on:
You can also connect with your respective career circle, which are industry/academic-focused communities dedicated to guiding you in making educated decisions as you prepare for life after college and explore the ever-changing landscape of careers.
Are you a pre-law student? We have a whole page dedicated to you. Although applying to Law school may be a ways away, you can still check out our pre-law page, which offers a timeline on how you should be preparing for your journey to getting into law.
Finding job & internship opportunities as an international student can be hard. That’s why Interstride is here to help! Interstride is a resource designed for international students so that they have access to valuable information, such as employers who typically hire international students, webinars & courses to help you succeed in your job search, and more!
If you’re a transfer student, don’t feel like you’re behind! It’s never too late to start, and you can start today. You can meet with one of our career coaches to help you connect your experiences from your transfer school to what you’re doing at UM and how they relate to your overall career goals. They can also help you start planning to get an internship and identify the right timeline to apply for opportunities in your field of interest.
