Refresh Your Handshake Page

Summer break is the perfect time to give your Handshake profile a refresh. With fewer academic demands, you’ve got a chance to focus on polishing it up without the pressure of a busy semester.

Whether you haven’t completed your profile yet or just need to update some documents, there may be a few things to ask yourself. Such as, have you updated your resume lately? Picked up any new skills or completed a cool class project? Maybe you’ve taken a course that aligns with your career goals.

Adding those details now can help boost your visibility to employers who are actively searching. Plus, it’s one less thing to worry about once school picks back up. A strong, up-to-date profile puts you one step ahead – and helps you make the most of opportunities that come your way.

Relax and Plan

When it comes to achieving success in your career, it’s best to know where you want to go and identify how to get there. Summer flies by fast, so by spending time focusing on your next steps, you’ll be ahead of the game before the semester even starts.

The first place to start is to do some brainstorming on where you are right now and where you might want to be. If you know exactly what you want to do, great – look into some steps you should be taking now to get there and think of some goals. If you don’t know, that’s okay too – use this time to explore and ask yourself questions like:

  • What do I enjoy doing?
  • What am I good at?
  • What careers might include both?

By identifying what you're good at and what you enjoy doing, you can begin narrowing down potential careers that align with your strengths and interests. Once you have an idea, start exploring those areas until something really calls to you. Feel free to look through our Explore Majors & Careers page which has a wealth of information at your disposal, including our ChatGPT prompt guide which can help assist you along the way!
