Meet Anna Sheridan, a sophomore innovation, technology & design major!

Over the summer, Anna interned at the University of Miami Information Technology as the generative creative AI liaison intern. Through this experience, she gained some hands-on experience with AI models and web design. As a result of extensive networking, Anna got offered an internship at Jefferies as an analyst intern for this upcoming summer! Anna says that some of the practice interviews she had with industry professionals helped her gain experience in finance-specific interviews, which led to her receiving this offer.

Through the Innovation, Technology, & Design program, Anna took a class with Toppel that gave her some helpful insights on the internship search and how to navigate the professional world in general. She utilized Toppel’s interview rooms which is where she did all of her internship interviews – she states that multiple employers even made comments about the professional impression she made.

Piece of Advice:

“Being able to interview well is really important. Do practice interviews and extensive research on every company and position you apply for. Reach out to any alumni or personal connections that you can in order to get a leg-up by mentioning that you've talked to them. Another thing as well is to get involved on campus.”

Ashley Chavarria

Guest Experience Assistant

Meet Ashley Chavarria, a junior accounting and finance major with a minor in business analytics!

Ashley is a part of the Association of Commuter Students (ACS). This semester, Ashley is looking forward to expanding her professional network through internships and networking events. She believes that gaining practical experience and connecting with professionals in her field will be invaluable as she prepares for her future career.

Last year she networked a lot at the career fairs, attended multiple events that Toppel hosted, and received career coaching. All of this ultimately helped Ashley land an internship this past summer at one of the Big 4 Accounting Firms!

Her internship allowed her to work closely with tax and audit professionals to gain hands-on experience in financial strategies and client relationship management. It also allowed her to analyze client data, identify client needs, and present developed solutions using data visualization tools to senior management.

Piece of Advice:

“Take care of relationships outside of college since it promotes overall well-being and because it can open the door to new opportunities. Also, it’s never too early to start looking for internships.”
