Summer is Time to Refresh Your Resume

Before the start of the academic year, it’s a good idea to create or update your resume. Since you may have obtained new skills during this past year, or are currently acquiring new skills at an internship, now is the time to add anything new so that you’ll be prepared for the upcoming school year and any opportunities that may arise.

Having a resume is the key to finding a job, an internship, grad school applications, and even joining a club or organization; so it’s important to always keep it updated with your most recent work, skills, and projects! Once completed, you can join our virtual drop-in hours over the summer (Mon – Thur, from 12 – 4 PM) to have it reviewed by a Toppel career coach and upload it to Handshake so that employers are able to find you.

Making a Cover Letter That Will Stand Out

Alongside your resume, one of the things that will make you stand out to employers is having a well-crafted cover letter. You can use your free time this summer to write one (if you’re applying for a specific job) or look at some templates to practice creating one for your dream job – but remember to tailor it to each opportunity you apply for!

A cover letter is a great way for you to stand out in a sea of applicants because it allows you to explain how you’d be the perfect fit for the position you’re applying for. If you don’t know where to start, you can even use ChatGPT to help with the initial outline. Check out the resources on our website for more information on how to craft a perfect cover letter.

  • Must be a US or naturalized citizen
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Availability to work at least one 90-day summer tour in the Washington, DC, area prior to graduation, and willingness to work at the CIA full-time after graduation
