#OwnIt

Meet Caroline, a junior majoring in political science!

Pursuing her goal of attending law school, she has gained extensive hands-on experience as a Supreme Court Associate Justice in student government, completed an internship at the Center for Disability and Elder Law, and is preparing for her upcoming internship at Chapman and Cutler, a finance-focused law firm in Chicago.

Throughout her journey, Toppel Career Center has been instrumental. From resume reviews and job platform guidance to being awarded the Angelo Family Endowment Fund,Toppel’s support has empowered her to pursue each step with clarity and confidence.

Piece of Advice:

“Get involved early and truly take advantage of all the resources UM has to offer. Form mentorships and make meaningful connections whenever possible. While it can feel intimidating to try something new or reach out to someone you don’t know, those actions often lead to valuable experiences, relationships, and new interests.”

Five Things to Refresh on Your LinkedIn Profile

Spring isn’t just for tidying up your room, it's also the perfect time to give your LinkedIn profile a fresh start. A clean, updated profile helps employers find you more easily and ensures your online presence reflects who you are right now. Here are five simple things to declutter this season:

1. Update your profile photo with a professional-looking headshot, good lighting, and a clean background.

2. If an experience no longer aligns with your goals (looking at you, 9th grade babysitting job), it might be time to let it go.

3. Remove skills that don’t reflect your current direction and highlight the ones that do.

4. Delete inactive clubs or projects.

5. If your 'About' section is empty or sounds like it could belong to anyone, it’s worth refreshing.

Polish your profile today!
