#KeepinIt100

Meet Norel Sky Reyes, a junior majoring in nursing!

Norel is gaining hands-on experience by interning with a board-certified aesthetic medicine doctor at a private practice in Miami. There, she assists with treatments like fillers, Botox, and neurotoxins, directly preparing for her dream career in aesthetic nursing. She plans to continue this internship through graduation to deepen her skills and open doors for future opportunities.

Norel credits the Toppel Career Center for giving her the tools and support she needed to become career-ready and helping her feel more confident in professional settings. Through the Angelo Family Endowment Fund, she was able to intern with the skincare company Beia, where she learned about product development and what it takes to land in major retailers like Sephora, Neiman Marcus, and FabFitFun!

Piece of Advice:

“Go after what you want, even if rejection comes first. Rejection is just redirection – stay committed, and your opportunity will come.”

Update your Handshake Profile Before Summer Break

With summer break coming up, it’s the perfect time to review and refresh your Handshake profile. Start by checking your experiences – have you completed any new projects, jobs, or internships that should be added? If your resume has been updated recently, make sure to upload the latest version too.

As you edit your profile, Handshake provides helpful tips and a profile completion bar on the left side of the screen. This feature shows what’s missing and gives suggestions for boosting your visibility to employers.

Taking a few minutes now to update your profile can make a big difference – especially if you’re hoping to land an internship, a job, or simply stay ready for future opportunities. Give your profile a quick polish so you can head into summer with confidence!

Laila Pettus

Career Education Intern

Meet Laila Pettus, a broadcast journalism & advertising double major from Washington, D.C.!

Laila is an Associate Producer & Host for UMTV’s The Culture, a reporter for Pulse, and a member of the Society of Professional Journalists.

This year, she is most looking forward to being an Associate Producer on the UMTV show 'The Culture’ and excited about stepping outside of her comfort zone and getting hands-on practice operating behind the camera.

One way Laila is #KeepinIt100 is by speaking up when she needs help. Whether it's asking for feedback, seeking advice from mentors, or collaborating with peers, she says that being honest about her needs helps her grow and ensures she is always learning and improving.

Piece of Advice:

“Always do everything out of love because eventually, love is all we have for people to remember us by.”
