#KeepinIt100

Meet Gabrielle Geller, a sophomore majoring in marine affairs with a minor in sustainable business!

Gabrielle is passionate about environmental sustainability and professional development. She serves as the Student Liaison for Toppel Career Center in Student Government’s Academic Liaison Council (ALC), where she helps bridge the gap between students and career services, advocating for their professional growth.

This semester, Gabrielle is interning with the City of Miami Beach Environment and Sustainability Department, working on climate adaptation and mitigation plans to help protect the city’s resources. She found this opportunity through Handshake, and now, through Toppel and ALC, she is helping to develop a custom UM Handshake collection to make sure fellow students discover valuable internships.

Piece of Advice:

"Start building your network and advocating for yourself early! Cold emailing, attending career events, and reaching out to alumni can open doors – you never know where one conversation might lead."

Suggest an Internship on Handshake

It can sometimes be hard to know exactly if the internship you’re applying to will be the right fit for you. Because of that, we’ve just launched a new feature that will allow you to see internships recommended by fellow ‘Canes! These are internships that have been shared by your peers based on the positive experiences they’ve had at that company.

To find it, just log into Handshake, click the jobs tab in the left-hand column, and where you see “Miami Collections” is where you’ll be able to access “Internships Recommended by Fellow ‘Canes.” It’s that simple!

On the other hand, if you’ve done an internship and would like to recommend it to your fellow ‘Canes, you can use this link to share your experience as well!
