#KeepinIt100

Meet Camila Fernandez, a senior majoring in English literature and creative advertising!

Camila recently took an exciting step in her career journey by attending Toppel’s week-long London Career Crawl over Fall Break. She connected with professionals in the marketing and tourism industries, explored potential career paths, and expanded her perspective on working abroad. The experience allowed her to build valuable networking relationships while immersing herself in London’s professional scene.

Reflecting on her time at UM, Camila is grateful for Toppel’s continuous support. From headshots and resume guides to career crawls, she says Toppel has been a vital part of her career preparation. These resources have given her confidence as she looks toward entering the workforce.

Piece of Advice:

"Take risks and ask for help! There’s no ‘right way’ to complete college, so focus on finding a rhythm that suits you. Don’t let anxiety hold you back - there are plenty of resources here to help you thrive!"

Ask a 'Cane

Are you looking for advice from professionals in your field relating to your career? Then we’d like to introduce a new feature on Cane2Cane (C2C) where you can ask a ‘Cane! Once you activate your C2C account, you’re able to ask questions to alumni, fellow ‘Canes, and friends of the university about specific career-related questions that have been on your mind.

To do this, just log in and click on the green tab that says “Ask a ‘Cane” to the right of the page. You can then pretty much ask any question you have about your career or choose a pre-generated AI prompt based on things like industry insights or networking advice. Once you do this, a mentor on C2C will be able to answer your question based on their first-hand experience!

Find a Job Based on Your Personality Type

When it comes to finding jobs, it’s really important to find a job that’s a good fit for you rather than the other way around. As you search for careers and explore what career path is best for you, it can be helpful to start with careers that may be aligned with your personality type.

Exploring career paths that match your personality can potentially save you years of dissatisfaction with your job in the long run. Cause when you’re stuck in a job that doesn’t fit who you are, it’s like trying to put a square peg into a round hole – sure it may fit if you force it, but it’s not where it’s supposed to be.

Here at Toppel, we can help you SCAN your career with our career exploration tools like the Career Explorer career test, StrengthsQuest, CareerOneStop Skills Matcher, as well as others! Stop by anytime Monday – Friday from 10 AM – 4 PM in person or on Zoom to meet with a career coach and learn more!
