Meet Emma Grace Craig, a Junior Biomedical Engineering major with a minor in LGBTQ Studies!
Emma serves as the President of the Panhellenic Association, Pride Ambassador at the LGBTQ Student Center, VP of the Sugarcanes, Social Media Ambassador for the Biomedical Engineering Society, and a member of Chi Omega Fraternity. Emma was the Student Team Lead of both the College of Engineering 3D Printing Lab and Innovation Labs, where she gained valuable hands-on experience in various aspects of laboratory operations.
Emma earned first place in the Horizon AI Hackathon by presenting a concept aimed at addressing the needs of 50 million physical therapy patients annually, which involved creating an application to remotely monitor, guide, and adjust home exercises for patients. This innovative idea earned her team a $2000 prize and an opportunity to present at the Rothberg Catalyzer AI Summit of the Americas! Furthermore, she received the Social Innovation Grant from the Butler Center for Service and Leadership for her documentary project titled "Beyond the Letters: Unveiling LGBTQ+ Stories in Greek Life."
Emma visited the Toppel Career Center to have someone look over her CV for her application to the University of Miami BS/MS Biomedical Engineering Program. She said that afterward, she felt ready to apply! Through the Pride Ambassadors program at the LGBTQ Student Center, she had the opportunity to have a resume workshop with one of Toppel’s staff members, where she received valuable tools like the Jobscan ATS Resume Scanner, to increase her match rates for job opportunities.
Piece of Advice:
“Proactively build your presence from the get-go! Don't hesitate to apply for opportunities, even if they seem out of reach. Leverage the resources available at UM; the community is eager to support you in reaching your goals!”
