Meet Aliyah SanAndres, a first-year Innovation, Technology and Design major!

During her first semester, Aliyah went to Toppel to receive help with refining her resume. Following this, she worked on enhancing her professional presence on LinkedIn by regularly posting, sharing insights from articles, and highlighting her accomplishments. She also says that attending on-campus sessions helped her hone her ability to curate an appealing profile. Aliyah saw that the content on her profile helped when she engaged with potential employers, as it resonated across both academic and personal interests.

Aliyah worked at the Architecture Research Center at UM, and more recently, with a start-up company, Style.re. as a quality assurance tester. In this role, she helps send tests and writes reports to ensure that the developers on the team are tracking bugs, and errors in UX/UI components of the web application that the company is developing.

Aliyah says that Toppel has consistently been a readily accessible resource for her when she is seeking guidance, ranging from refining the language on her resume to obtaining career advice and strategies for pursuing internships or planning a job search. Thanks to Toppel's assistance, she successfully secured two internships during her first semester of college!

Piece of Advice:

"Actively engage on platforms like Handshake and LinkedIn while utilizing Toppel's resources to refine your resume and make regular updates. Navigating the internship application process can be challenging, but I discovered that dedicating time consistently, even just a few hours per week, and adopting a quantitative approach significantly contributed to my success."

Taryn Ezekiel

Career Coach

Meet Taryn Ezekiel, a junior creative Advertising major with a double minor in creative writing and music industry from Philadelphia, PA! Aside from being a career coach at Toppel, Taryn is a Hurricane Productions Concerts Co-Chair and Gravity Magazine Podcast Chair.

This semester she looks forward to learning a lot about the music business to build her knowledge and get her footing in the industry. Some of the steps she has taken to do so were by enrolling in classes that would help answer if she wanted to be in the sports or music industry.

She also applied for some of the lead positions in the organizations she’s involved in on campus to build her knowledge and education in the industries she wants to pursue. Now she is behind the scenes planning a concert for 2,000 people!
