#UShine

Meet Aishani Ramdin, a junior double-majoring in psychology and criminology!

Aishani is a Research Assistant in the Social Emotional Readiness Lab, the Co-Founder and President of Trinidad and Tobago Canes, and is also part of COPE as a peer educator at the Counseling Center.

Last summer, she had the opportunity to embark on a transformative internship journey in the Federal Government as a Logistics Officer. Here, Aishani played a pivotal role in producing business intelligence support for management and honed her proficiency in a myriad of essential tasks within logistics and supply chain management.

Through attending Coffee Chats and meeting with recruiters one-on-one at the Toppel Career Center, Aishani said she felt equipped with the essential resources to apply for an internship that matched her interests. Despite the internship not directly relating to her major, these interactions with Toppel and the recruiters sparked a newfound interest in Logistics and Supply Chain Management that she hadn't anticipated.

Piece of Advice:

“As a first-generation college student, my foremost advice is to never be afraid to seek out resources and ask questions. Seek out opportunities that might not even be directly related to your major, as it can provide you with valuable skills in different areas in your future endeavors. Lastly, never underestimate your worth or qualifications for any role or position, as your unique skills hold value in various contexts.”

Miles Giegerich

Graphic Design Intern

Meet Miles Giegerich, a junior public relations and political science double major with a minor in the music industry!

Aside from being a graphic designer at Toppel, Miles is also a part of PRSSA. One thing he wishes he had known was how well-connected the professors are at UM, and how they can help you achieve your career aspirations.

Some ways that Miles has used #UShine to achieve his career goals have been by discovering new fields of study through courses at UM and applying what he learned to his professional pursuits.

Piece of Advice:

“Nobody is paying as much attention to you as you think they are, it's good to relax and not care so much about what other people think.”
