#LevelUp

Meet Justine Joseph, a senior Computer Software Engineering major from Trinidad & Tobago!

Graduating this semester, she has had 3 summer internships throughout her academic career, two with Schonfeld in their Wynwood office. She first applied to Schonfeld following a career fair hosted by Toppel and the College of Engineering, which she learned about through Handshake. Her most recent position with them was as a software engineering intern during the Fall semester of 2022, where she assisted with different projects and learned a new coding language.

She says that Toppel helped her jumpstart her career by helping her create a resume her freshman year and exposing her to Handshake where she was able to contact employers and keep track of career fairs happening on campus.

Piece of Advice:

“My advice for other students is to utilize every resource possible and try to put yourself out there as much as you can. It is a difficult process looking for internships and jobs, especially as an international student, but every little thing helps. Make meaningful connections where you can and always be open to different opportunities.”

Jannai Ahadzi

Employer Engagement Intern

Meet Jannai Ahadzi, a Political Science and International Studies double major with a minor in Sociology on the pre-law track! Aside from being an Employment Engagement Intern here at Toppel, she is also a part of the African Students Union, United Black Students, NAACP, Above the Bar, UMiami Dems, and the National Council of Negro Women.

She said that she had to #LevelUp by coming out of her shell and being less reserved with people she doesn’t know that well. She also states that she had to take more initiative to seek out newer and better opportunities for herself, as well as remind herself to never get overly complacent about where she is now.

This led her to zone in on what she wanted to focus her law career on. To help her get there, she plans to study abroad, obtain internships, and allow herself to spend more time doing humanitarian work both in the United States and abroad.

Piece of Advice:

“Don’t doubt yourself! Believe in yourself and your abilities, because there is no way you would have gotten to where you are now if you weren’t worthy of it or working hard for it.”
