Career fairs are one of the best ways to advance your career, especially when it comes to building your network and securing a job or internship. As you prepare for our upcoming career fairs, here are a few tips on how you can get the most out of a career fair:
- Create an itinerary so you know who and what you’re looking for.
- Be prepared by bringing everything you need.
- Remember career fair etiquette and always be professional.
- Network by making connections, someone always knows someone.
While the main objective of attending a career fair is undoubtedly to get a job or internship, it’s important to keep in mind that you can always use career fairs as a learning experience as well! Use the fairs as an opportunity to hone your career fair skills and learn about different companies.

Andrea Lizanel Nieves Méndez
Career Coach
|
Meet Andrea Lizanel Nieves Méndez, a first-year Marine Biology & Ecology major with minors in Business Technology and Computer Science!
Aside from being a Career Coach here at Toppel, she is also a Foote Fellows student, a member of the Caribbean Students Association, and a member of the UM Surfrider Foundation. She is also a Gift of Life Campus Ambassador and an Education Chair for the Ocean Awareness Week Board.
She said that she had to #LevelUp by stepping out of her comfort zone and going after opportunities she wanted. This led to her getting her first job, applying for a position on the Ocean Awareness Board, making solid professional connections with her professors, and having the opportunity of being a Toppel Intern!
Piece of Advice:
“Allow your passions to flourish, but don’t be stubborn; you can’t always do exactly what you want. Be realistic, act with your heart, and think with your brain. Be practical, be honest, be truthful, and be the kind of person your parents would like you to be.”
