#OwnIt

Meet Rafael, a sophomore double majoring in public relations and motion pictures!

This past summer, Rafael completed a public relations internship at Agentry PR in New York City, gaining hands-on experience in media pitching, influencer research, showroom support, and client services. He worked with nationally recognized brands including DSW, Hollister, Saucony, and AKNVAS. Beyond developing core PR skills, the fast-paced New York City environment proved transformational, enhancing his professionalism and perspective.

Rafael says that Toppel has played a key role in preparing him for his first summer internship, providing financial support through the Angelo Endowment Fund that made the opportunity possible. Through structured assignments and guided reflection, the program helped clarify professional goals and build career readiness. Overall, Toppel has been an extremely great resource for his career development and readiness for the working world.

Piece of Advice:

“Always do the extra work. Pushing yourself to do the things that are not asked of you is representative of a desire to positively contribute to your environment and elevate yourself beyond basic standards. Doing more than expected will always set you apart in both professional and personal contexts.”

Spring 2026 BreakThru Career Mixer

Dearest Gentle Readers,

The Spring BreakThru Career Mixer is upon us—a most splendid affair for those brave enough to step beyond the safety of familiar circles and into rooms filled with possibility.

This is no ordinary gathering. The BreakThru Career Mixer is where meaningful introductions are made. Employers in attendance are not merely browsing, they are eager to meet students who want to make genuine connections as they prepare to enter the workforce. Consider it your early advantage ahead of the Job & Internship Expo.

Come as you are (polished, of course), armed with your resume, and prepared to mingle, converse, and be seen.
This promising soirée is made possible thanks to First Gen Canes and the LGBTQ Student Center, whose efforts ensure all students have a seat at the table. So, dear reader, will you remain on the sidelines—or will you BreakThru? This author suspects the most memorable opportunities often begin with a single, courageous conversation.

Zoe Fundora

Career Coach

Meet Zoe Fundora, a second-year law student from Miami!

This year she is looking forward to taking non-doctrinal classes and really homing in on the type of law she wants to practice in the future. One way Zoe has exemplified our #Ownit theme is being intentional in the connections she builds and opportunities she seeks out to achieve her goals. This mindset has pushed her to take on leadership and community roles that have challenged her and built her confidence.

Piece of Advice:

“To not wait for opportunities to find you, but rather to make them yourself.”
