#OwnIt
Meet Andrew, a senior majoring in political science and public administration!
With a passion for civil rights, government, and law, Andrew has had some very impactful work experiences. Last summer, he was an Employment Law Investigate intern with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD). His primary role was to investigate claims for civil rights violations, ADA compliance, and housing discrimination along with applying the correct prima facie case. He observed mediations and had the opportunity to author 2 different investigative dispositions that were later signed by the commissioner. During his sophomore year, Andrew was a campaign and communications intern for Edge Communications in Miami where he worked for numerous candidates like the Mayor of Miami-Dade County Daniella Levine Cava and Commissioner Higgins, who is now the new mayor of Miami city proper.
Andrew says that Toppel has supported his career readiness through resources like Handshake, free professional headshots, interview prep, and the Angelo Family Endowment Fund that enabled him to participate in the MCAD internship.
Piece of Advice:
“Take advantage of every opportunity around you. At the university, there are so many great opportunities and resources for students, especially through professors and staff. It’s a waste not to apply yourself and make the most of them.”
