#BounceBack

Meet Ashley Margaritondo! Ashley is a senior majoring in Health Science and Psychology. She works at the Herbert Wellness Center as a Wellness Program Supervisor and has held various clinical internships to collect hours toward physical therapy school applications. Ashley says Toppel helped her to become career ready by reviewing her resume and her letters of intent and by giving her a clear path forward early in her undergraduate studies.

Some advice from Ashley: “It's important to ask for help if you need it. Everyone is at different stages throughout their time as an undergraduate student, so there is no reason to compare yourself to others. The resources are available for you to use, and you should take advantage of them, even if you don't think you necessarily need it.”

Last Call Career Fair

Still looking for a full-time job or internship? Register and participate virtually through Handshake for the Last Call Career Fair on Wednesday, April 13th from 1:00-4:00 PM. This event closes out the spring recruiting season for the University of Miami! Attendees can expect to connect with recruiters representing non-profit, management, education, government, real estate, and hospitality, with both local and national opportunities. Register in advance to select 1:1 times or group sessions with select employers.

Register here for the event and click here to check out the full list of companies who will be in attendance. Then, read below for tips about how you can prepare.

Virtual Career Fair Tips

With the Last Call Career Fair taking place virtually, it’s even more important to be prepared and to have a plan going in. In advance, make sure you update your Handshake profile with your current resume and interests (employers will be using this to learn more about you). Do some background research on the employers who are attending, and prepare a short Elevator Pitch to sell yourself and your qualifications.

During the event, make sure you are dressed professionally and in a quiet place. Be on time, engaged, and ask questions to the recruiters. Then, make sure to follow up after the event by applying to open jobs or internships and sending messages to recruiters.

Considering Graduate School?

Are you considering attending graduate school in the future? Looking to gain insight on the graduate school application process? Thinking about graduate school funding opportunities? Join the Toppel Career Center and the McKnight Doctoral Scholars for our "Is Graduate School Right for Me" panel session on Wednesday, April 13th at 6:30pm via Zoom. We will feature a diverse set of panelists ranging from law, medicine, psychology, environmental policy, and microbiology who will help answer all these questions for you.

Best Advice:

Set goals and objectives for what you aspire to achieve in life. Have a vision of them and remind yourself of them every day. Then, little by little, you'll build towards them, grow more knowledgeable, more disciplined, and remain focused.

#BounceBack Story:

During the pandemic, internships have been difficult to navigate. I had planned on interning at the French consulate during the summer of 2020, but due to the pandemic, the internship program was canceled, and my next internship opportunity was limited. I applied to over 40 internships the next summer and ended up landing an internship at Caserta & Spiriti Law firm as an accountant. This experience was very beneficial to my career path and has since set me on track for more opportunities.
