#BossedUp

Graduate & PhD Students,

Meet Christine Jobson! Christine is a third year doctoral student in the Frost School of Music completing her degree in Vocal Pedagogy and Performances. She has been working hard to develop herself into a leader in her field through various opportunities:

“Lately, I've been traveling and sharing my lecture recital about an African American female composer named Florence Price. My last performance took place at the University of California in Irvine. It was an especially rewarding experience because I was able to share my research and sing for younger music students.”

At Toppel, Christine has enlisted the help of staff to complete her Three Minute Thesis lecture, which she presented on February 6th. She cites the help of other resources at the Toppel Career Center, such as interview preparation, resume writing, and job search assistance as factors that helped her reach her goals and become #BossedUp.

Toppel Staff Spotlight:
Ismaris Ocasio

I attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst where I received my masters degree in Student Development with a concentration in Social Justice Education. While pursuing my degree, I interned as a Dialogue Coordinator at a neighboring university where I planned, executed, and implemented a dialogue series that focused on intersectionality and intergroup dialogue. Additionally, I taught three courses and presented at a variety of conferences pertaining to subjects regarding the impacts of our social identities on our personal, academic, and career pursuits.

As the Assistant Director for Graduate Student Programs, I manage all programs, workshops, outreach, and advising for graduate and PhD students. In collaboration with the graduate school, we assess the needs of our graduate population to implement comprehensive career services.

My piece of advice to graduate and PhD students is to seek and maintain an active network of support that can assist you professionally, socially, and academically. It is important to take a holistic approach to our personal and professional development to assure we are not neglecting any part of ourselves.
