Meet Devante Herron, a senior media management major with minors in law and politics and sociology!

Devante recently had an internship as a student marketer at Red Bull for about a year, where he helped out with Ultra Music Festival, all the way to the F1 Miami Grand Prix. He says that it has been a great opportunity to better his networking skills as he was able to work with different companies and organizations throughout Miami.

He also interned with the Florida Justice Institute to help with sealing and expungement cases, as well as immigration. Civil cases and criminal reform are some of the fields of law he would want to get more into after law school.

Devante says that the Toppel Career Center has been a guiding force in his career journey since there isn’t a designated pre-law track at UM. He also says that through Toppel, he was able to find his two internships.

Piece of Advice:

“Make sure you take every opportunity presented to you and always have confidence in yourself because you never know where that can take you. It's ok to have your own path and not compare to others, as everyone is different with a different journey in life.”

Pre-Law Events

If you’re a pre-law student, then you won’t want to miss out on a few events we’ll be hosting this week. Today at 6 PM in the Toppel Career Center Loft, you can meet with The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) for their Legal Mixer & Internship Presentation, where you’ll get to learn more about their programs and the internships & fellowships within the organization.

Then tomorrow at 12 PM in the Toppel loft, join us for the LSAT Workshop by TestMasters. In this workshop, you’ll be challenged with a series of difficult LSAT questions and will learn the most effective methods for tackling them. You’ll also have the chance to take a free practice LSAT and receive a comprehensive score report and detailed explanations for all questions. Just register here and use the code V54YZFS. Keep in mind that the test takes 2.5 hours to complete, and you must take it on October 1, 2024.

Meet Alyssa Maye, a junior from Kingston, Jamaica, majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology with minors in psychology and microbiology/immunology!

Alyssa is actively involved in several clubs on campus, including the Jamaican Students Association, the Caribbean Students Association, and the Homecoming Executive Committee. This semester, she is excited to continue her lab research at the Miller School of Medicine.

Looking back, Alyssa wishes she had known that it’s never too early to start pursuing opportunities, as time waits for no one. To stay on track with her career goals, Alyssa is #KeepinIt100 by making sure not to take on too many tasks at once and prioritizing the topics that matter most to her.
