#KeepinIt100
Meet Aly Gómez, a senior double majoring in communications and international studies with a minor in journalism!
Aly interned with the Miami Marlins as an event coordinator during the Serie del Caribe. As part of the organizational committee, she was involved in the pre-event preparations and post-event wrap-up. She says that the experience taught her invaluable lessons in logistics and problem-solving, emphasizing the importance of adaptability in event coordination.
By focusing on expanding her professional network, Aly has been able to nurture relationships with former colleagues and actively engage on platforms like LinkedIn and Handshake. This proactive networking strategy, which includes connections with professionals from Inter Miami, Miami Heat, and the Marlins, has enhanced her standing in the sports industry and led to multiple internship offers.
Aly says that the Toppel Career Center has been the cornerstone of her journey toward becoming career-ready by providing valuable resources and assisting her in mastering all the basics necessary to succeed in the professional world. She also received feedback and guidance to help her highlight her strengths and experiences effectively on her resume. Moreover, she also attended Toppel’s career fairs, which she used to network and practice her elevator pitch.
Piece of Advice:
"Prioritize personal and professional growth. Build technical and soft skills, stay curious, and use your network wisely. Maintaining a strong GPA and setting clear goals will position you as a top candidate. Ultimately, aim to be a well-rounded candidate so that job offers come down to whether you align with the company’s values, not just whether they like you."

Update Your Career Interests on Handshake
Just like any platform that provides information to you, Handshake has an algorithm that shows you information based on your interests. But did you know that you can “train” the algorithm to show you things more tailored to your specific interests? All you have to do is update your career interests!
Just click on your profile icon in the top right corner, and from the dropdown menu, click on “My career interests.” You’ll then be taken to a page that allows you to fill out things that match your career interests, field or industry, type of role, and more! By doing this, you’re essentially telling Handshake to prioritize specific opportunities for you to see.

Felix Delanos
Career Coach
|
Meet Felix Delanos, a junior industrial engineering major from New Jersey!
Felix is a part of the Association of Commuter Students (ACS), and the Men’s Volleyball Club. This year he is most looking forward to landing his first internship for the summer. One thing Felix wishes he had known in his previous years is that he should get himself into as many clubs as he can handle. It not only helps with socializing, but it really helps with networking!
Felix is #KeepinIt100 by giving his all in school and club volleyball as well as venturing out into his own interests to try and start making a real living for himself after he graduates. By doing this, he says that it has helped him grow and mature as a person, and it has taught him to keep aiming for the next thing and to not slow down.
Piece of Advice:
“Aim for 1 percent every day. Always aim to improve by 1 percent every day instead of telling yourself just 1 more minute.”
