#KeepinIt100

Meet Obi Khair, a first-gen sophomore majoring in computer science on a data science track with a minor in business technology and mathematics. Last fall, Obi joined the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine as a database analyst. He was responsible for data analytics and managing the REDCap database for alumni career research. He also embarked on a new role at the UM School of Architecture MRED+U as a web development assistant. Here, he worked on the front-end development of multiple university websites and research projects.

Obi says he is thankful for the support he received from Toppel Career Center, which is how he was able to do practice interviews with Bloomberg. These sessions provided him with insightful feedback on perfecting his technical project presentation and how to stand out from the crowd in the current tech industry. He also visited the Bloomberg office when he attended the Career Crawl: Arts & Sciences in NYC over spring break, where he gained exposure to engineering, sales, and trading at the heart of Bloomberg.

Piece of Advice:

"Consistency always outperforms competitiveness. As long as you are curious to try new challenges, you will always achieve great opportunities and be able to collaborate with the best competitors."

When it comes to choosing a career, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) may play an important role in how one feels within the workplace. To ensure that we are connecting diverse students to employers who value DEIB, we’ll be hosting our BreakThru Diversity Mixer on September 17 at 4 PM in the Lakeside Village Auditorium & Expo Center.

This event is designed for underrepresented student populations, including Black, Indigenous, & People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQ+, first generation, and students with disabilities, to connect with employers who value and promote DEIB.

It serves as a lead into our signature Job & Internship Expo/Graduate School Fair and supports future professionals by providing them an early opportunity to connect with employers before attending Expo. BreakThru Diversity Mixer

Taryn Ezekiel

Career Coach

Meet Taryn Ezekiel, a senior creative advertising major with a double minor in music industry and creative writing from Philadelphia, PA!

Taryn is a part of Gravity Magazine and Grammy U. One thing she wishes she had known earlier is that it’s okay to not be involved in so many things at once because you can still get opportunities without doing all of that.

One way that Taryn was #KeepinIt100 to achieve her goals was by getting an internship with Live Nation over the summer, which is in a field she would love to work in.
