The Power of Planning
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail…and with the fall semester approaching, it’s a perfect time for you to plan for the upcoming semester. By planning, you provide yourself with a roadmap to your goals and how to get there. Some ways that you can start planning include:
- Updating your online profiles and documents to reflect what you’ve accomplished this summer.
- Come up with a plan of action on how to approach your fall career journey.
- Identify how to execute those plans, and ensure you can achieve them.
If you're finishing up your internship, here are some key things you should do afterward. But by planning effectively, you'll be well on your way to a successful and fulfilling career. The Toppel Career Center is here to support you, so make the most of the resources available and start planning your career journey this fall!

Asking for Performance Feedback
As the summer is coming to an end and you’re wrapping up your internships, now is a great time to ask your supervisor for some performance feedback. Feedback is an important part of your growth as a person and as a professional...because how can you ever learn how to get better if you don’t know what your strengths or weaknesses are?
All you have to do is reach out to your direct supervisor, find time to meet, prepare some questions, and be open to the feedback you receive. When it comes to the types of questions you should ask, one way to guide your conversation is by going off NACE’s core competencies. By taking the initiative to ask for feedback, you show your commitment to professional development and significantly enhance your career prospects!
