#LevelUp

Meet Raneil Smith, he is a senior History major with a minor in Psychology!

Recently, he took part in the Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (REEES) think tank at Howard University. Participants worked in mentored groups to create projects relating to the histories of a particular place in the region.

They presented their research at the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES) 2022 conference in Chicago. He will also be presenting a research project for the Southern Conference on Slavic Studies at the end of March!

He says that Toppel helped him throughout his career journey thus far by introducing him to the Handshake platform which allows him to be in contact with employers.

Piece of Advice:

“Don’t be afraid of pursuing opportunities that do not fit into our preconceived notions and expectations of your career. Sometimes we enjoy fields and topics we didn't think we would.”

Pine Crest School Virtual Career Fair 2023

If you’re interested in embarking on a career path in education and would like to be a part of one of the best schools in South Florida, then be sure to attend the Pine Crest School Career Fair!

Between 9 AM and noon on Saturday, January 28, you will have the chance to meet with an administrator of their division of interest to discuss educating at Pine Crest School, opportunities available to you, and how Pine Crest can further your career goals.

You'll be assigned a 15-minute time slot to meet one-on-one with a Pine Crest School administrator and receive details regarding a time for you to interview with them later on.

Update your Handshake Profile

With the start of the new semester, it’s best to look over your Handshake profile and make updates as needed. When you go to your profile, take a look at your experiences and see if there are any new ones that need to be added. Also, don’t forget to re-upload your resume if you’ve made any new changes.

On your “My Profile” page, Handshake will offer suggestions on how you can improve your profile and has a profile completion bar in the left-hand column as well. This bar will help guide you on how to fully complete your profile so that you can be ready to be contacted by recruiters and enhance your career journey!

Daniel Perez

Career Coach

Meet Daniel Perez, a second-year Legal Studies student with a minor in International Business! Aside from being a Career Coach here at Toppel, he is a part of the Foote Fellows Honors Program at The U as well as the Caribbean Student Association. He is also involved in many of the Butler Service events that are available to students on campus.

He says that he had to #LevelUp by putting his time into things more, which has resulted in him being more involved with events and volunteering activities which have influenced his perspective on many things.

He believes that in order to be successful at career goals one of the most important things is to use your time wisely and put your dedicated motivation into it. When you fail at prioritizing your time it does not result in a productive outcome.

Piece of Advice:

“Always put yourself out there! There are so many opportunities and ideas that really influence who you are and what you want to do as a person and putting yourself out there open to such opportunities can be life-changing.”
