#LevelUp

Meet Nicolette Onesto, a Sophomore Finance major with a minor in Sports Administration!

Nicolette is the Public Relations Chair of Canes Financial and is currently an intern at Lafayette Square where she is a Salesforce Data Entry Intern. Not only that, but Nicolette has already started applying to internships for the Summer of 2023 such as to Girls Who Invest, McKinsey, The NBA, Deloitte, BrightHouse Financial. She is also working to stand out from the crowd by networking with the CPOs and CFOs of some of these companies as well!

When she visited Toppel to gain some advice on the application process, her career coach gave her the “Job Search Tracker” excel sheet which she says has been one of the best things for her career! She says it helps her stay organized because she can write down all of the internships she’s applied to and is able to track their progress.

Piece of Advice:

“My advice would be to start networking now! The people that you speak to will remember you. Even if they aren’t looking to fulfill a job position at the moment, they will think of you when spots open up. I spoke with a professor at the University of Richmond in my junior year of High School when deciding which college to attend, and four years later he is helping me connect with finance internships! Stay in touch with everyone you talk to because they will always be willing to help. Also, speak to Toppel because they will give you tools you never knew you needed.”

National Mentoring Month

Having a mentor can make a significant impact in one’s professional development. And with January being National Mentoring Month, we would like to highlight the vital role that mentors can play in people’s lives. Some people think that mentors just give advice, guidance, and ideas, and it’s up to the mentee to put them into action. But the truth is that mentors are active in how they help, often providing opportunities and network access to help you solve a specific problem or challenge.

If you don’t know where to start or feel lost with trying to find a mentor, no need to stress! Whether you’d like to connect with someone with a similar background, or someone in your field/industry of interest, Toppel is here for you! Visit our Find a Mentor page to check out three platforms you can use to find the mentor that is right for you!
