The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, providing them with skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity.
The Gilman Program broadens the student population that studies and interns abroad by supporting undergraduates who might not otherwise participate due to financial constraints.
It aims to encourage students to study and intern in a diverse array of countries or areas & world regions and also encourages students to study languages, especially critical need languages.
To apply, you must be:
- A citizen or national of the United States.
- An undergraduate student.
- Receiving a Federal Pell Grant during the time of application or provide proof that you will be receiving a Pell Grant.
- In the process of applying to, or being accepted to, a credit-bearing study abroad or internship program.
- Applying for credit-bearing study abroad programs in a country or location with an overall Travel Advisory Level 1 or 2, according to the U.S. Department of State’s Travel Advisory System.

Cameron King
Guest Experience Assistant
|
Meet Cameron King, a sophomore biomedical engineering major with a concentration in mechanical engineering from Taunton, MA. Along with being a Guest Experience Assistant at Toppel, he is also a brother in Sigma Chi.
This year he is most looking forward to his biomedical design class, where he will begin his senior design project for the College of Engineering. He also looks forward to learning more about Cane2Cane and the mentors available to connect with on the website.
He said he had to #LevelUp to achieve his career goals by networking with people in the biomedical engineering field. This networking allowed him to work as an intern for a medical device startup that is making low-cost neonatal incubators for babies in underprivileged areas.
