#UShine
Meet Emilia Morales, a senior legal studies and political science major!
This summer she had the opportunity to intern at GR Law Firm PLLC here in Coral Gables. She worked as a Legal Intern under Attorney Jose Guerrero, one of the best immigration attorneys in the country. She’s always had a passion for law; however, as an immigrant to this country, she saw an opportunity to relate her personal experiences to those of others and immerse herself in the immigration law field. She had the opportunity to interact with clients, understand different applications, motions, and gather evidence for cases. She left with a great amount of knowledge in the immigration law field, and an even greater desire to help others.
She said Toppel helped her become more career ready in various ways, such as the internship assignments which helped her visualize her goals as her internship started and helped her thoroughly evaluate her experience at the end of it. She had the ability to take professional headshots at the Toppel photo booth which helped her improve her LinkedIn page, resume, and professionalism in different organizations she is involved in on campus.
Piece of Advice:
“Take it one day at a time! Big goals can seem overwhelming when you see how much you need to do in order to accomplish them, but if you do something small every day, soon you'll be at the finish line! Consistency is key.”

Mary Gorski
Career Coach
|
Meet Mary Gorski, a fourth-year architecture student on the pre-law track with a minor in fine art! In addition to working as a Career Coach at Toppel, she writes for the University’s Distraction Magazine and interns at Leo A Daly.
At the beginning of this year, she started exploring internship opportunities for Summer 2023. She embodied #UShine by polishing her resume and portfolio, networking with firms, and eventually undergoing multiple interview processes.
As a result of her hard work, she landed an internship with Leo A Daly, a national architecture and planning firm. She says her summer internship experience was very fulfilling, and is excited to continue working with them through the semester!
Piece of Advice:
“View obstacles as an opportunity for growth rather than a roadblock. Every time we go through a period of conflict, we grow into ourselves a little bit more.”
