#LevelUp

Meet Ovviyaa Manusrii! She is a sophomore political science and computer science major. This past Summer, she spent 10 weeks living in the Caribbean pursuing humanitarian relief efforts and research as a project manager for a branch of the Alliance for Global Resilience and Regeneration. She worked with the Kalinago Tribe, the Indigenous people of Dominica, primarily centered on improving the quality of life in the Kalinago Territory. One of the many things she did was work to get funding for free Wi-Fi, so they could have access to more resources.

She is currently a Fellow with the Clinton Global Initiative, a year-long program that invests in students working on philanthropic and social development projects. She went to the Toppel Career Center Peace Corps seminar which helped illustrate the field of international development, and she also learned about other opportunities that Toppel facilitates to help UM Students stand out to employers.

Piece of advice:

“Take advantage of every resource and opportunity at your disposal. Universities are unlike any other environment because they are saturated with knowledge and expertise in diverse fields. Be diligent and curious, you are more capable than you know!”

Katerina Fernandez

Career Coach

Meet Katerina Fernandez! She is a senior Political Science, Spanish, Classics, Theatre, and Philosophy major from Naples, FL.

She is the vice chair of the Student Government’s Election Commission, and a member of FEC, Above the Bar, Lucha Latina, the Racquetball club.

One way she had to #LevelUp was to get out of her comfort zone and reach out to people. Talking and asking questions might seem awkward at first, but remember that your professors and professional staff are here to help you succeed. Reaching out to others has led to her leadership position in Student Government, research opportunities, and job opportunities!

Piece of Advice:
“Never be afraid to ask questions. Reach out to people and professors that interest you. The right question can open all the right doors.”
