#BounceBack

Meet Luna Melo! Luna is a junior majoring in Microbiology and Immunology. She always knew she wanted to be in the medical field but felt overloaded with multiple STEM classes and began to doubt herself. Luna was able to use Toppel services to #BounceBack and develop strategies to present herself to employers and gain career experience. Most recently, Luna secured an internship with Long Island Spine Rehabilitation Medicine, where she received one-on-one time with five medical professionals, hands-on experience, and a new perspective on what the industry is like.

Some advice from Luna: As you navigate college, trust your gut, and believe in yourself. Don't let the many questions in your head stop you. Get informed, plan ahead and remember that if you put the work in, you will be successful in whatever you pursue.

Kylie Oquendo

EE Intern

Kylie Oquendo is a sophomore from New York majoring in Finance with a minor in Real Estate. Outside of Toppel, Kylie is a part of the Alliance of Latin American Students and the Women in Business organization based on campus. She is looking forward to more of an in-person experience at UM this semester, and she is happy that meeting new people and making connections in college is not as intimidating as she previously thought it would be.

Best Advice?

Treating others the way you want to be treated is something I live by wholeheartedly. The energy and actions a person may give to the world will always come with a reward or consequence.

#BounceBack Story?

I feel as if I never really graduated from high school and suddenly, I am a sophomore in college. In many of my courses during my freshman year, I felt inferior to my peers because they all had experience from various jobs, internships, and educational backgrounds, and I could not relate. I've been able to #BounceBack by adapting to working virtually. I've spent time updating my resume, LinkedIn, and creating relationships with employers online. Working through this on my own has allowed me to grow and to secure my first internship.
