Ivan Nzende is a sophomore double majoring in International Studies and History, with a minor in English. He emigrated to Maryland from Africa, having lived in Cote D’Ivoire, Cameroon, and Tunisia. Ivan is a Foote Fellow and a Hammond Scholar, and he is involved with the African Student Union and Above The Bar, a multicultural pre-law organization.

Everyone’s path is unique in design. It’s important to seek out opportunities based on your personal interests or based on where you see yourself developing in areas you might not be most comfortable in, and those opportunities are not necessarily the same for everyone.

Coming from a home environment that was not very welcoming nor supportive, huge leaps of faith were necessary for me to get where I am today. From moving out earlier than most and risking homelessness to meeting strangers from the internet for a place to stay, my path was filled with obstacles I overcame through faith, determination, and a drive to beat my odds.
