#GoalDiggin
Meet Jovanie, a sophomore on the Pre-Law track majoring in Political Science and minoring in Criminology. Jovanie will be #GoalDiggin as the Treasurer for the new club Above the Bar, which targets minority students on the Pre-Law track. Jovanie says, “Toppel and Handshake have helped me tremendously with career readiness. I have gone to Toppel for help with resumes, applications, cover letters, and personal statements. I participated in the Professional Development Academy, where I learned about communication in the workplace and how to network with recruiters. I am very thankful for the tools and tips Toppel has given me this semester.”
One piece of advice she would give to students is: “‘It is not who you are that holds you back, it’s who you think you’re not.’ Don’t miss out on opportunities because you don’t think you’re qualified. The worst any employer can say is no, so just give it a shot.”

Handshake Trends
Last month, Handshake saw over one million messages sent to students from employers in a single week for the first time, and the numbers continue to climb. This reinforces the importance of filling out your Handshake profile because it's being used regularly by employers to find students to message. The top 5 industries reaching out to students are Internet & Software, K-12 Education, Healthcare, Investment/Portfolio Management, & Management Consulting.
Full-time jobs and internships are still available on Handshake. 82% of all jobs and 52% of all internships being posted right now are for full-time positions. So, there’s still reason to stay positive and engage in your job and internship search! The top jobs roles being advertised since the beginning of March are: Software Developers & Engineers, Business Analysts and Management Consultants, Accountants, Data Analysts, Customer Service Representatives. If none of these are a good fit for you, that's okay. You can find other opportunities on Handshake as well, using filters to make your search more efficient.

Hi there! My name is Rachel Amezcua Bahadue and I serve as the Assistant Director of Employer Engagement at Toppel. I began in this role in January 2020 after a career change from mental health counseling. I am greatly enjoying working directly with students and employers and being part of the ‘Canes family. Some of my interests include traveling and learning about new and different cultures through their food, dance, and customs. I enjoy being outdoors and engaging in activities like running, hiking, and exploring vineyards.
