Spring 2021 PDA Conference

DIPDA Edition: "Navigating Identities in the Professional Landscape" 

The Diversity & Inclusion Professional Development Academy (DIPDA) will be a half-day intensive conference designed to help students develop knowledge and skills for career readiness and success.  

While reimagining the future of the Professional Development Academy, a group of peer leaders who participated in the program transformed the Academy experience into a half-day conference, "Navigating Identities in the Professional Landscape." The 7-week DIPDA curriculum was consolidated into a one-day initiative that addresses self-exploration, personal branding, communication, and a sense of belonging in the professional landscape. This program will offer participants the opportunity to explore critical professional competencies identified by employers. 

Date: Saturday, March 27th, 2021

Time: 12:00 PM – 4:30 PM

Location: Virtual via Zoom

Format:

  • Three interactive workshops
    1. Exploring Self: Who Are You? (StrengthsQuest-based)
    2. Exploring Strengths & Values to Build Your Personal Brand
    3. Understanding and Leveraging Your Communication Style
  • A panel of dynamic and diverse professionals who are eager to share their personal experiences with UM students
  • A networking session at the end

Program Benefits:

As a participant, you will receive the following:

  • Certificate of completion
  • Networking opportunities with professionals across different industries including representatives from City Year, MAXIMUS, Techtronic Industries (TTI), T. Howard Foundation, BeLoved, Inc., and the Aqua Foundation for Women
  • Supplemental conference package
  • The first 40 students to register will receive free StrengthsQuest assessment codes for the first session of the conference!

Eligibility:

Open to all undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in dominating the job market and learning about how to navigate identities in the workplace.  UM Students from all majors, school years, and identities are welcome.

Program Curriculum:

Communication Proficiency

Share thoughts and ideas in an effective manner. Communication proficiency explores both written and verbal capacities. Additionally, this area explores the digital realm of electronic communications.

Thinking & Reasoning Proficiency

The ability to analyze, synthesize and apply gathered information to solve problems and make decisions. This proficiency is developed both in and outside of the classroom. Additionally, the ability to apply ethical decision-making is critical in the workplace.

Workplace Professionalism Proficiency

Prepares students with the basic needs to enter a global workforce. The workplace professional proficiency reviews entry-level business knowledge, personal brand, and culture in the workplace. This proficiency also empowers individuals to see, shape, and benefit from their professional identities.
