#GoalDiggin

Meet Kathleen Hanson, a Junior majoring in Accounting with minors in Finance and Business Law. This Summer Kathleen was an intern with the Lennar Corporation at their Jacksonville and Miami Corporate offices. Her role as an accounting intern in their NextGen Internship program focused on leadership development and preparation for a future as a Controller or VP within the company.

Kathleen says "Toppel has provided a plethora of career building initiatives which have enabled me to network with confidence and land a dream internship I had never thought was possible. Coming from Australia, I knew I would have to work twice as hard to make and expand my connections in the business world here in the U.S.m and Toppel guided me through every step of the process."

Some advice from Kathleen: “Attend as many Career Fairs/networking opportunities/sessions in the Loft as possible! Get your name out there and do it with a smile!”

Handshake Q&A

With Handshake’s Q&A (Question & Answer) feature, you can ask and answer career-related questions. You can ask just about anything and you’ll get responses from students and alumni from any school on the Handshake network!

Examples include:
• Asking about the interview process
• How to succeed in a specific role
• What it’s like to work for a certain employer
• Skills and experience needed to apply for a particular internship

You can post questions directly to an employer’s page, or find relevant Q&A content on job pages or your dashboard. All Q&A will be visible to other students, employers, and career centers, but you have the option to ask and answer questions anonymously or publicly.

Read this helpful article for more tips on how to use this feature.

Your LinkedIn Summary

The introduction summary on your LinkedIn profile is one of the most important aspects of your page since it is often the first section recruiters see. It also gives viewers an idea of whether they want to connect with you.

This article from The Muse provides 5 different templates for writing a summary including: The Mission-Based Summary, The Personality Summary, The Short-and-Sweet Summary, The Blended Summary, and the Accomplishments Summary. Read on to determine which template best fits your personality traits.

Aurora Garcia

Sr. Administrative Assistant

I’m a native New Yorker who has lived in Vermont, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, and now finally, has found a home in Miami. This is actually my second stint in Miami,as I attended Florida International University and earned a degree in International Relations. I took an Art History elective as a Freshman, not because I liked art but because I heard it was easy. Butthat first class opened me to a whole new world and before you knew it I had an Art History minor and I was doing an internship in the FIU Art Museum on the University Park campus. My biggest takeaway from college was: Follow your interests
