#LevelUp This Year with the Toppel Career Center

Welcome back, Canes! The Toppel Career Center is here to help you #LevelUp and to celebrate all the ways you’re already doing just that! This is our weekly e-newsletter, the Toppel Insider, where you’ll find lots of great info about upcoming events, job & internship openings, career advice, and how to make the most of the career resources available to you.

Our theme for this year is #LevelUp. Leveling up is all about working through the many phases of your career development and unlocking new and exciting opportunities in the game of life. How Can Toppel Help?

Toppel offers both in-person and virtual services to give you maximum flexibility. You can drop in virtually or in person (M-F, 10a-4p) to chat with our highly trained career coaches and get your questions answered. We offer resume critiques, practice interviews, career assessments, and other services and resources that you can access on our website. There will also be a number of career events and fairs throughout the semester, as well as information sessions and other workshops that can help you make connections and develop your skills.

Introducing Handshake

Whether you’re a first semester Cane or returning for another year, Handshake is a great resource that could help you in your job or internship search. Handshake is the platform that UM uses to connect you to thousands of amazing job and internship opportunities, networking events, and career advice from fellow college students across the world. Not sure what your career goals are or what kinds of jobs to look for? Handshake recommends opportunities based on your interests. As the semester begins, be sure to log into the platform with your CaneID and password to activate your account!

Did you know that you have a Career Circle here at UM? These are industry and academic-focused communities for students to find career resources, meet with professionals, and search for relevant job and internship opportunities. You can join as many Career Circles as you want by updating your career interests on Handshake, and visit our website for more information about the circles.

Vault / Firsthand is hosting a virtual, national career fair for Women in STEM on August 24th, 11am-3pm that is targeting students and candidates seeking internships, entry level roles, and lateral opportunities. Companies such as Abbott, Trinity, and Infosys, among many others, will showcase content in different virtual rooms, posting job opportunities and actively interacting with students and professionals.

It’s completely free for students to participate and a great way for them to get a jumpstart on learning about and securing internships or entry level employment early in the academic year.
