Meet Alexis Calixte! Alexis is a Junior majoring in Health Management & Policy. She has used Toppel services to polish her resume - specifically, to help the bullet points for each job/internship stand out - and to find work opportunities that are a good fit for her career interests. Alexis says that one of her challenges has been finding opportunities/ companies that meet her specific interests, as opposed to applying for general positions in her field of study. After working with Toppel advisors, Alexis was able to secure an internship with Florida Blue for this upcoming summer.

Some advice from Alexis: Get involved on campus! Whether it’s a club, sport, or Greek life, the school has so many amazing organizations and getting involved will make your college experience more enjoyable.

Handshake Mobile

Now that you know what Handshake can do, why not take your job search on-the-go? The Handshake mobile app is available in both the iOS and Android app stores, and it’s perfect for finding your next job, internship, or connection. You can use it to explore events, fairs, and jobs (favorite them and then apply), access on-campus interviews, experiences, surveys, and resources, and add work experiences, organizations, and volunteering to your profiles. You can also enable the app to send notifications for applications deadlines and messages from employers right to your device!

Toppel Internship Fund

Do you have an internship for summer 2022? If you are a full-time UM undergraduate student and you are NOT graduating this spring, the Toppel Internship Fund could help reduce the financial challenges of your summer internship. Through the generosity of members of the University of Miami Parents Council, we are able to offer competitive awards of $500 up to $3000 for undergraduate students who accept unpaid and paid internship opportunities. The internship must be taking place during the summer and it can be a paid or unpaid position.

Best Advice: It’s not your life if you’re constantly worrying about what others think. While I found this quote while scrolling through tiktok, it stuck with me because of its truth. It can be so easy to let the fear of what others would think of you keep you from doing what you love. It is important to let those thoughts go and do whatever your heart desires.
