#BounceBack

Meet Joseph Broehl! Joseph is a senior majoring in Political Science with minors in LGBTQ+ Studies and International Studies. He has spent the past three years as a Resident Assistant in Hecht Residential College, and interned for the Joseph R. Biden Presidential Campaign as a Team Lead/Campaign Fellow. Here is Joseph's #BounceBack story:

“As a first-gen student, there have been times when I've been lost and genuinely unaware of the various programs, internships, etc. I could and should pursue in order to set myself up for success post-graduation. When I was a freshman, I felt extremely dissatisfied with my Biology major at the time, so I went to Toppel for help. I took one of their career assessments, where it evaluated my strengths, weaknesses, and interests and provided me with a list of possible careers/fields that I might be interested in. That's how I found out about Political Science! From there, I enrolled in a political science class, fell in love with what I was learning, and the rest is history.”

Best Advice:

Don't be afraid to ask questions! Everyone is here to learn and grow, and you’d be surprised at the number of things you can learn and the opportunities that can present themselves if you just ask one little question.

#BounceBack Story:

Not all of us are lucky enough to have opportunities and career choices easily present themselves to us. Being a first generation American and college student in my family who wants to attend law school, there have been several times where I didn’t know what my next move should be. I have found the key to #BounceBack is to persist. At times, when I have not immediately achieved my original goal, I’ve looked at the situation from a different angle and found a new way in. I am a strong believer of if you aim for the moon, even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.
