#BounceBack

Meet Léi Sun! Léi is a 4th year PhD student in the Counseling Psychology program, and she works as a Graduate Assistant in Career Education here at Toppel. Léi is active with the American Psychological Association (APA), as well as the Board of Directors of the Taiwan Psychology Network (TPN). She was originally rejected from graduate school and had to #BounceBack by taking active steps to make herself a more competitive applicant. She gained research experience that strengthened her CV, applied for graduate school for the second time, and was admitted to UM with a full scholarship in 2018.

Some advice from Léi: Sapere Aude, a Latin phrase meaning “dare to know.” I also wish I knew more about the services at Toppel when I first attended UM, but it’s not too late to learn now.

EPIC is Coming Soon!

Are you looking to land an internship or full-time position with a top company? Attend our EPIC (Employer Practice Interviews and Critiques) event on Tuesday, September 14th and Wednesday, September 15th. This is your opportunity to meet 1:1 for 25 minutes with a recruiter in a virtual setting to receive feedback on your resume, cover letter, or LinkedIn profile. Practice your interviewing skills and elevator pitch with representatives from top companies and receive valuable feedback.

Each 1:1 meeting you register for will be 25 minutes long and will be conducted via Zoom breakout rooms. After you register on Handshake and select your time slot, you will receive an email with the Zoom meeting invitation.

Searching For Jobs on Handshake

Are you ready to find a job or internship? Use Handshake to start your search. The platform has filters that allow you to customize your search, for better and more personalized results. The employer preferences filter will show you jobs that your profile is a match for, based on what the employer has specified they are looking for. You can also use keywords within the jobs menu to help you find the opportunities that interest you the most. If you find something you like, save jobs to keep track of important deadlines and receive emails about similar jobs based on the ones you interact with.

Where Should You Work?

As the semester gets started, you may be thinking about fitting in a part-time role or internship to gain some experience. In today’s workplace, you have more options available to you about your work setting and if it will be remote, in-person, or hybrid.

#BounceBack Story?

Over the summer, I struggled to find opportunities for work that I was truly motivated by and would be passionate about. Thankfully, I was able to #BounceBack, and I am now working at Toppel, where I can continue to pursue my love of networking and copy-editing and have made a number of connections for future positions! My internship this past summer at City Hall in Philadelphia for Councilman Isaiah Thomas helped me to get equipped and connected with the political communications industry.
