#BounceBack

Meet Taylor Washington! Taylor is a senior studying Industrial Engineering with a concentration in Management. Taylor has worked as a Field Intern for the National Low Income Housing Coalition, a Robotic Process Automation Intern at NextEra Energy, and an Industrial Engineer Intern at American Express. She secured these opportunities by meeting regularly with Toppel advisors and polishing her resume and interview skills. Taylor has learned not to judge an internship opportunity by its title, and to do the research to figure out the role and what it can allow her to do. These skills have allowed her to #BounceBack and succeed in her job search.

Some advice from Taylor: "Keep a notebook with you when you are doing internships and document every little task you do on the job, so you are able to have a complete view of what you learned throughout the internship at the end of the summer."

Cane2Cane

Have you been on Cane2Cane? It’s a community of UM alumni who aim to facilitate career exploration and networking for students. Browse the network of Cane2Cane alumni based on industry, major, or an area of interest, then start conversations with potential mentors, explore articles, webinars, and other resources. If you want hands-on, practical experience in your area of interest, check out Cane2Cane Projects. These are short-term, virtual experiences with well-defined goals. They are a learning opportunity supported by guided mentorship, and many of the project will include a small stipend. We will feature a project each week in our “New Opportunities” section at the bottom of this newsletter, so don’t miss it!!

A Question For You

Here is your chance to engage with us! Starting this week, we will be featuring a question for you in this section of our newsletter. See if you can answer it on your own, then check our Instagram story on Monday afternoon to find the answer. We will also be posting helpful resources that relate to the question. Mihret Russo

CE Intern

Mihret Russo is a first-year majoring in Spanish on a Pre-Med Track, and she hopes to use her language skills to treat a variety of patients. She is passionate about creating safe and comfortable spaces and wants to one day participate in programs like Doctors Without Borders and the Peace Corps. Mihret also plans to join clubs and organizations at UM that will allow her to grow and help others.

Message from Mihret:

Keep moving forward and fight for what you believe in; never lose sight of who you are. This has stayed with me throughout my journey and has helped me to #BounceBack from many obstacles and setbacks. I’m immensely grateful for every obstacle I’ve faced, because they have helped me grow into the person I am today. For me, obstacles in the path of life are simply opportunities for growth.
