#BounceBack

Meet Andrea Gonzalez Caballero! Andrea is a second year DMA student in Guitar Performance at Frost School of Music. She has had to #BounceBack throughout her career journey in the arts world, which she says is "abstract and subject to personal experiences and knowledge." Defining herself as a musician and figuring out what her work reflects is something Andrea continues to refine and develop. She teaches at the Superior Academy of Music in Miami and the Frost Preparatory Program and has organized several concerts and events.

Some advice from Andrea: It is always important to project yourself into the future. See what you want to achieve and start working on the first steps that will lead you to your goal.

Life design is not about answering the question, "what do you want to be when you grow up?" once and for all. It's about finding the person you want to grow into. It's working from where we are and with what we have to design and build a meaningful, joyful, and fulfilling life, one that is aligned with our values, beliefs, and interests. Here are five mindsets you can adopt to help you along the journey:

  1. Be curious
  2. Try stuff
  3. Reframe problems
  4. Know it's a process
  5. Ask for help
Read more about how you can apply design thinking principles to design your life here.

Mia Porter

Front Desk Intern

Mia Porter is a junior from Atlanta, GA. She is pursuing a double major in Africana Studies and Sociology with minors in Management and Communications. Outside of Toppel, Mia is on the Executive Board for NAACP, NCNW, and MSA’s Unity Roundtable. She is also the Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging at Orange Umbrella.

Message from Mia:

My freshman year I wanted to be a lawyer… then I changed my mind. My sophomore year I wanted to be in political commentating… then I changed my mind. My junior year, I stopped and took the time to do research about potential careers and fell in love with HR Management, specifically Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) work. Because I took the time to find what I truly loved, I have had 3 internships and started programs on campus regarding DEIB.
