This semester has been anything but ordinary, and it’s almost time for a much-needed break. As you take time for yourself or pursue summer work opportunities, we want to encourage you to think about your career development. If you have a list of things that you wanted to get done this semester but didn’t get a chance to, this would be the perfect time to do so. You can also get a head start on your plans for the fall semester.

Summer Skills Advantage Series

The Skills Advantage Series is a free 6-week virtual program that enables students to learn specific, transferable hard skills during the summer break. There are six tracks to choose from and a certificate of completion will be awarded to students who successfully complete the series. The tracks include, Digital Marketing, Nonprofit and Grant writing, Project Management, Healthcare Data Science, Coding, and Graphic Design. The summer series will run from June 14th - July 19th, 2021.

Did you find a summer opportunity on Handshake? Starting, May 4th, post a selfie celebrating your internship or job using the #hiredonhandshake hashtag. Visit the handshake website to find a custom frame for some added flare. The company will repost participating students who use the frame and hashtag on their social media accounts - and you will be entered for the chance to win prizes!!

That’s why we’re here to help. Whether you have set post-grad plans or are still looking, we want to hear from you! Azul Alvaro-Dadin

Peer Advisor

Azul Alvaro-Dadin is a junior from Bay Area, California majoring in Exercise Physiology on the pre-Physical Therapy track. Azul is a transfer student, and she is part of U Iron Sports (UM’s weight-lighting team) as well as being a peer advisor here at Toppel. She is attending classes remotely this semester and is happy to be spending more time with her family.

Best Advice?

Learn not to stress or sweat the small stuff, and to not take things (personally and academically) as they go and move on. Everything always works out!

#BreakThru Story?

I changed my major after transferring and that was a breakthrough because I was not enjoying my academics and saw it as more burdening than anything. When I made the switch, it was the best decision I ever made because now I am learning what I am passionate about.
