#BreakThru

Meet Naomi Ross! Thanks to a grant from Volunteer Florida, Naomi is joining the Toppel team as our new AmeriCorps Recruiter! A native South Floridian, much of Naomi's professional life has been dedicated to working as a change agent in communities. She graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Miami and discovered a true passion for being an engaged citizen in her senior year. From 2009 to 2019, she served three terms as an AmeriCorps member with local nonprofits addressing neighborhood revitalization, food equity, and academic service-learning. Naomi also has experience in communications and event planning and is excited to back at UM! She’s here to help students #BreakThru and discover their passion for service too! Don’t hesitate to reach out to Naomi if you’d like to discuss a possible career in service.

Some advice from Naomi: Our journey to success isn't always going to look exactly like what we first envisioned – life has a way of throwing curveballs on occasion (take 2020 for example!). You can still set out to achieve great things, it just may take a little longer than expected. In the end you'll learn valuable lessons that are applicable to personal & professional challenges.

#BreakThru Story?

Like many students and professionals, I have struggled with Impostor Syndrome from time to time whenever I try to utilize a new skill I have learned in a professional setting. However, acknowledging that I still have much to learn but having the confidence in myself and knowing I have the skills to complete the job has helped me #breakthru this barrier! Recently, overcoming this obstacle has led me to qualify and be considered for internships in Graphic Design and Motion Graphics!
