#BreakThru

Meet Kristophe Smith-Walker! Kristophe is a sophomore majoring in Economics and minoring in Business Law and Strategic Communication. By working with the staff at Toppel, he learned how to take advantage of opportunities like the Fall Career Crawl. As a result, he will be interning at NextEra Energy as an Economic Development Analyst this summer. Kristophe works as an Academic Liaison for Toppel through Student Government, and he says this experience has helped him develop leadership skills and made him more marketable to employers.

Some advice from Kristophe: There is not one structured path/timeline to take for your career. A lot of times, students get caught up in where they "should" be and with their trajectories, but never take the time to understand what the "now" has to offer regarding lessons in both personal and professional development.

Headshots at Home

Headshots are an important part of your professional brand. If you’re looking to take a great headshot from home this semester, no need to buy a fancy camera! Your mobile phone can take a high-quality picture, if you pay attention to the details. Pick a background that is clean and non-distracting. Consider your outfit, the angle, and finishing touches that you can add to polish your headshot.

Check out this guide for taking professional-looking Headshots at Home on our website.

Paying For Graduate School

Planning for graduate school is an exciting next step in your professional journey. However, you may be wondering how graduate school is financed, whether the FAFSA might help, and if scholarships and other opportunities are available.

Join us virtually on Tuesday, April 20th, at 12:30 PM for the Paying for Graduate School Webinar and get your questions answered! Best Advice?

The path of others is not the path that you are destined to follow. There are different roads and obstacles that you will face, and multiple destinations you can get to, so do not compare your failures or successes with anyone else.

#BreakThru Story?

I used to have a mindset that I had to be on the same high level as everyone else or be as advanced and clever as my peers. Once I let that go, I found peace in doing what is best for myself and becoming better at certain things on my own time. I created my own nail business and taught myself how to do different types of nails. Now, I am starting to take on clients, and I use a lot of my own creations such as stickers and details to decorate their nails!
