#BreakThru

Meet Kai Anderson! Kai is a senior double majoring in International Finance & Marketing and Management, with a minor in Business Law. He will be moving into a full-time role as a Global Finance & Business Management Analyst at JPMorgan Chase after graduation. Kai attended multiple Toppel career fairs in his time at the U, and says the exposure and experience gained are what allowed him to secure this opportunity. He had to #BreakThru rejection and self-doubt, which he says is “something that many black and minority young professionals experience.”

Some advice from Kai: There's a stigma that in the corporate world you are supposed to be uptight and hide your true self from the office. I can tell you for a fact that this is not true, as letting my personality shine is a large part of the reason why I was offered a full-time position. Don't be afraid to be your true self, but make sure you do so in a professional manner.

Best Advice?

Cast a wide net. Trying new things and exploring different possibilities has helped me to continue to co-create my career path to the best of my abilities.

#BreakThru Story?

The main barrier I’ve had to #BreakThru toward my career goals was my comfort zone. An abundance of incredible opportunities were awaiting me as soon as I stepped away from a fixed mindset and into a growth mentality. This lead to fulfilling experiences, such as an internship as a publications assistant with Keiki O Ka ‘Āina, a non-profit organization with the mission to educate children, strengthen families, enrich communities and perpetuate the Native Hawaiian culture.
