#GoalDiggin

Meet Maia, a sophomore majoring in Political Science and Sociology with minors in Economics and Public Administration. Maia has been #GoalDiggin this year and landed an offer to be an intern for the U.S. Department of State within the Office of the Fulbright Scholarship. While she awaits a decision on how her internship will pan out amidst COVID-19 precautions, she continues to find ways that she can build upon her professional development! Maia is establishing herself as a leader in the campus community by facilitating a Career Preparation webinar with the Future Canes program next month. Maia says that “Toppel and Handshake have helped me immensely with career readiness by ensuring my resume is up to date and that I am familiar with various career development programs on campus.”

One piece of advice from Maia is: “Find what interests you—career development is a stressful process in general and it helps to know you’re preparing for a field that you feel at home in.”

Jennifer Perez

Assistant Director of Campus Talent

I graduated from Florida International University during summer of 2015. I had many interests and jumped around a few majors. Feeling lost, I looked towards the career center at FIU for a sense of direction. The career center at FIU provided me with the tools and resources I needed to design my path. Eager to graduate, I decided to major in Interdisciplinary Studies, minored in Hotel/Lodging Management and utilized my connections to land a campus position as a student assistant at The Office of International Affairs; the job that jumpstarted my career in higher education. I didn’t know it then but every person I met on my journey throughout my undergrad led me one step closer to where I am now.
