Job Searching on Handshake

While you continue to search for a job or internship, it’s important to be focused and organized. On Handshake, a focused search has never been easier – just update your career interests and Handshake will filter out all of the listings available until there are only ones relevant to you.

Save yourself even more time by saving your job search settings! When on the “Jobs” tab, you have a search bar, a location filter, and several other filters. This will provide you with results tailored to jobs you want to see. When you’ve adjusted your search to terms that work for you, click where it says “Save your search” so that you can come back to it later and get notifications for new jobs that match your search settings.

This year, you’ve probably worked on a lot of projects, some academic and some professional. Put them on your resume! If your work is something that taught you the skills you need to be successful in your field, your resume and professional networking profiles are good places to showcase the ways in which that experience sets you apart.

For help on how to include academic, volunteer, and other non-professional experiences to your resume, read through Toppel’s resume guide or speak with one of our highly-trained advisors.

Job searching requires a significant amount of organization. You have numerous emails, contacts, listings, and conversations to keep track of. Just like with classes, organizational tools are an excellent way to make sure that this information does not get cluttered in your mind and that you stay on track to succeed. Read this article from The Muse to find the tools and techniques that work best for you!

If you’re applying on Handshake, much of this work is already done for you under the “Applications” page, and can serve as a guide for tracking your external applications!

Kelshay Toomer

Asst. Director, Internships

A Seminole at heart, I graduated from Florida State University in Spring 2016 with a Bachelor's in English and a minor in Communications. Determined to finish in exactly four years, I did not allow my social life to trump my academics. The one thing that kept me focused was imaging myself walk across the stage at graduation. When I first started college, I stayed within my comfort zone because it aided as a safe place for me while I attended a Predominately White Institution. Wanting to find a sense of belonging, I joined The Black Student Union, S.I.S.T.U.H.S and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority where I developed life-long friendships. Wise words from a Seminole -- visit the Career Center to help you better prepare for your life after college!
