#GoalDiggin

Meet Mikaela Sanders, a first-year student majoring in Marketing. Mikaela has been #GoalDiggin as the Head of Marketing for TAMID at Miami where she manages social media pages, photographs events, and conducts outreach. She shares, “Since arriving in Miami in the Fall, I have gotten really involved in extracurriculars, especially in TAMID, where we do pro-bono consulting for Israeli startups. In the Fall, I consulted for a data management solution company and worked with my team to create a deliverable analyzing vertical markets. I also worked with four other new TAMID members on a national case competition focused on developing a market entry strategy and memo for an Israeli wine company entering China as part of a national case competition, which we won.”

Some advice from Mikaela: “I would advise students to get involved and take initiative early, even as freshmen, because exploring different avenues can help you find your passion.”

Exploring Majors and Careers

Wednesday, February 12, 2020 11:00am-12:00pm

Are you undecided about what major or career path you want to pursue? Have you chosen one, but are still uncertain if it was the right choice for you? Toppel is hosting a workshop with the Center of Exploratory Students this Wednesday (February 12, 2020) from 11:00am-12:00pm to help you explore majors and careers through a variety of assessments. They will determine which assessment is the best one for you to aid in determining how your personality connects to your major, what your strengths are, or how your areas of interest correspond to potential career paths. Register for this event on Handshake.

Career Docs Critique

A great way to round out your profile on Handshake is by uploading any professional documents you have like a resume, cover-letter, portfolio, etc. These career documents are a crucial part of the job application process as well as an opportunity to showcase your work to potential network contacts like employers you will be meeting at Spring Career Expo coming up. To help you put your best food forward, Toppel advisors will automatically review the first resume you upload. Any additional career documents can be reviewed with a Toppel advisor during regular Toppel business hours. (Monday-Friday, between 8:30am-5:00pm at Toppel and Monday-Thursday, between 5:00pm-7:00pm in the Richter Library Learning Commons)

To upload a document, log in to your Handshake account and click on your profile name in the upper right-hand corner. Then, select “Documents” from the drop-down menu that appears. Once you are on the Documents page, click on the blue “Add New Document” icon on right side of the screen to upload any document of your choice.

Christian Garcia

Associate Dean & Executive Director

I often say, “I don’t take myself too seriously, but I take the work I do very seriously.” What does that mean, exactly? It means that, being someone who is young at heart, I like to have fun and believe that life is too short to not have fun while you’re doing the work that you love. Sometimes people mistake my lightheartedness for silliness or weakness but rest assured, I know what I’m doing and I’m great at it. My passions in life include making people laugh, traveling the world, enjoying good food and wine, and being the best uncle possible to the two most beautiful girls in the world, Ella and Sofie.
