#BreakThru Summer

Congratulations to the Summer Skills Advantage Series, Summer 2020 Cohort! This summer, we had 92 students complete our brand new, self-directed virtual training program designed to help them develop valuable, transferrable skills. Participants completed one of five tracks, including digital marketing, project management, graphic design, coding, and non-profit/grant writing. These students took this opportunity to #BreakThru with a summer learning experience that will complement their traditional studies and expand their career options.

What You Need to Know About a Virtual Coffee Chat

Can we meet up for coffee? Are you free for a virtual coffee chat? As you continue to navigate your career journey, establishing meaningful connections will help you strengthen your professional network. Try to get comfortable with asking others for a few minutes of their time to help you gain valuable advice and insight for your career. If you don’t have access to an in-person meeting, adjust creatively and reach out for a virtual coffee chat over Zoom, Skype, or Google Hangouts. A virtual coffee chat will allow you to polish your virtual networking skills while helping you build genuine connections, gain an insider look at a field or position, and expand your professional network. Check out this article for advice on preparing for your virtual coffee chat and a few email templates for a virtual coffee chat request! Enjoy your coffee (or tea)!

Best Advice?

"My mom said if you don’t love what you do, you won’t be successful. It’s really easy to fall in the trap of doing something just for the money, but I understand that it’s much more important to be passionate about what you do to achieve overall success in your life."

#BreakThru Story?

"I had to #BreakThru the barrier of not just saying I wanted to update my LinkedIn and Handshake profiles or update my portfolio and resume, but actually create a schedule where I could follow through with these goals in a realistic and timely matter. It’s so easy to keep adding to your to-do list, but it can become overwhelming and that’s why it was helpful for me to order things by priority and delegate certain weeks to accomplish a task throughout the summer."
