#GoalDiggin

Meet Morgan Henry! Morgan is a senior with majors in Political Science and Anthropology. This summer she was #GoalDiggin as a research intern at Bendixen and Amandi International, a media consulting firm located in Coconut Grove.

She shares, “I was lucky enough to get to collaborate with Airbnb, the Knight Foundation, and local Florida attorneys in developing and presenting research gathered through focus groups, interviews, participant observational studies, and information through other mediums. Along with this, I was able to assist in creating and editing content for the firm's social media and podcasts.”

Some advice from Morgan: “Internships are so valuable, especially in college, because they help you understand and draw connections among your individual interests while applying your academic experience to real-world problems in the field.”

What’s the Difference Between a Hobby, Job, Career, and Vocation?

Have you ever taken time to consider the differences between a hobby, job, career, and vocation? These four concepts are often associated with our passion and/or purpose, however are not explicitly differentiated. By being able to identify and name the differences, it allows us to engage in our purpose in more meaningful ways.

Check out this Facebook post by Elizabeth Gilbert where she explores the differences in these concepts.

I’m proud to say that I was the first in my family to go to college and my college experience helped shape me into who I am today. I was in love with being a college student and therefore, soaked up every part of it. I was a work study student all four years and was involved in everything imaginable. I met so many new people, many of whom are friends till this day. My dream from childhood was to become a respected television news anchor (Tom Brokaw was my hero) but as I began to take broadcast journalism courses, I soon realized it just wasn’t me. As an uber-involved college student, I was surrounded by many wonderful administrators, but it was one in particular who helped me realize that I was made to work on a college campus. Before I knew it, I was applying for graduate school and eventually earned my Master’s degree in higher education administration and the rest, as they say, is history!
