#GoalDiggin

Meet Nicholas Gounaris! Nicholas is a junior studying Business Law. He was a Legal and Security intern for SiriusXM over the summer.

He shares, “On the legal side of the program I was working with the General Counsel Pat Donnelly. I assisted with gathering information about current lawsuits going on with Sirius and was able to sit in on important meetings with the CEO, CFO, and COO. On the security team, I worked with the Vice President of Security. I helped during the Lady Gaga performance at the Apollo Theater and assisted escorting clientele into Sirius's studio on a daily basis.”

Besides the internship, Nicholas has also been #GoalDiggin by using Toppel’s services! “Toppel helped me learn how to act professionally in the corporate world. Before coming to UM, I was unsure of how to navigate through an office setting. However, I was able to find success from my experience of interacting with the employers that come to Toppel and from doing practice interviews during EPIC.”

Some advice from Nicholas: “Ask questions. Knowledge is power, and the more you know, the better prepared you are. No question is a stupid question, so keep asking even if you think you know the answer to it.”

Carly Smith

Associate Director Career Readiness

College was an exciting time for me. I took a major risk by attending a university in which I knew the academics would challenge me more than I had been challenged before. I also went across the country, not knowing a soul. It was in college that I truly gained confidence in myself and started to find my voice, speaking up for issues that I cared about. As a northerner my whole life, it was in this time that I gained a new appreciation for all things South: country music, cowboy boots, and delicious shrimp and grits. My best advice to current college students is: Work smarter, not harder.
