#BossedUp

Meet Alejandra Meneses Saccone! She graduated from UM in 2016 with a major in Advertising and a double minor in Marketing and Broadcast Journalism.

Alejandra currently works for Z Advertising Group and was recently nominated for an EMMY award for a segment she produced along with other coworkers! She was able to connect with her company as a Toppel Internship Program (TIP) participant and went from a college intern to becoming a Jr. Account Executive/Production Coordinator.

She first got into her field when she had the opportunity to work as an intern for McCann Erickson for two consecutive summers as an undergraduate student. After that experience, she shares, “I completely fell in love with the chaotic, yet magical agency life. As a senior, I wanted to find an internship that would hopefully transition into a full-time job upon graduation. Through Toppel, I found Z Advertising Group (ZAG) and I’ve worked with them ever since.”

“I love seeing the final product of a creative piece, whether it is a digital ad, television commercial, radio spot, billboard, etc. There are a lot of moving parts that take place for the final product to come to life, and it’s very humbling and motivating to see your work finalized and admired/liked by others. I was recently nominated for an EMMY award for a segment I produced along with other ZAG coworkers and receiving the recognition motivated me even more to work harder so that every final product I put out there is its best possible version.”

Some advice from Alejandra: “Get a real-life experience as soon as possible. Every internship or job will always help you get closer to finding your passion and true-life calling.”

Edward Cruz

Director Career Education

When I arrived to college in the fall of 1998, I can remember feeling a sense of accomplishment that I made it! However, as the semester continued, this feeling quickly diminished. As a first-generation college student, I began to question if I belonged for a variety of reasons. However, through my perseverance and self-awareness, I quickly learned what I needed to do to become successful. During my sophomore year I became heavily involved on campus and began connecting with faculty and staff. Due to my experience as a first-generation college student, I have a passion for serving and mentoring first-gen students at the University of Miami. Outside of the office, I enjoy spending time serving my local church, capturing moments through photography, playing basketball weekly and raising an energetic and happy toddler, Benjamin, in partnership with my wife Juliana.
