#BossedUp

Meet David Grossman! David is a senior majoring in Mathematics and Computer Science, with minors in Physics and Economics.

Last summer he interned at Coursera, Inc., an online education startup in Mountain View, California. He was a software engineering intern on Coursera's Growth Team. He says, “the team focused on increasing key metrics for Coursera's success, such as number of users, number of courses taken, and time on the platform.”

“I had a fantastic experience. I was treated as a full-time team member and by the end of week 1, I was already contributing code that was live on Coursera's platform. I had a mentor I worked closely with throughout my internship. Working at a Silicon Valley startup was really cool. It didn't really matter when I arrived or left, just that I got my work done. It was also easy to interact with people in any part of the company and the culture was really open. I could learn about the inner workings of all parts of the company, even for a company of 100+ people. Overall, I felt that I contributed something meaningful to the company and grew a lot as an engineer.”

Some advice from David: “Your network gives you superpowers. I thought it was underrated advice, but once you're employable, the highest-leverage thing you can do is build your network. People who know that you are awesome will want you to work with them.”

Exploring Impostor Syndrome

Tuesday, February 5th @ 5:30PM

Impostor syndrome is often defined as a psychological pattern in which individuals doubt their accomplishments and have a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a fraud. It can critically impact an individual's work preference and performance in their early post graduate career endeavors.

Join the Toppel Career Center on February 5th to learn more about the impacts this syndrome may be having on you. Register on Handshake.

Executive Director Employer Engagement

I am a proud native Floridian! I love spending time with my family and friends. Having the opportunity to travel is exciting, and I enjoy visiting new places. My job gives me energy, as I love helping students achieve their career goals. In college, I was shy when meeting new people. I loved my job in UF Housing and chose my career path based on that experience. I also had a lot of fun singing in the University Choir! My proudest moment was the day I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. If I could give advice to my younger self, it would be “don’t be afraid to take risks.”
